Sickness/Diseases-lizards

Let's talk about unhealthy lizards for a moment. It dosen't happen often, but it can happen.Below are a few common problems, and some suggestions/solutions.It's not a complete listing but I'll update it when I have more information

Colds,sneezing:
Lizards should be kept fairly warm and at a constant tepmperature (75 to around 90 degrees).Avoid drafts, they can catch colds!!Moisture or discharge from the nostrils is a sign of a cold as is sneezing.Remedy by checking draft and feeding electrolytes daily.Make sure your lizard is not fooling you by playing in the water and then discharging moisture from the nostrils.

Cotton mouth:
This is a sign of an impending infection.Your pet has probably cut it's mouth and an infection is setting in.Vitamins,Electrolyte, and in some cases, antibiotics are required.See a specialist for further details.Veterinarians may not be up to date on lizard care;consult a herpetologist (lizard doctor)

Broken toes,tail,or cuts:
Did the bleeding stop??(y/n)Use antibiotic salve to prevent infection, and to stop bleeding if needed. There isn't alot you can do to restore broken limbs or toes or tail. Sorry, time will seal the wounds, but missing toes or tail usually will not grow back.

In this area I'll include a list of all the material necessary to perform the tasks I'm describing on this page.
